Horizontal root fractures are the result of a traumatic tooth injury. The future health of the tooth depends on the location and extent of the fracture. If the fracture is located very close to the tip of the root, or occurs in such a way that it does not split the root into two separate segments, then the success rate for restoration is high. However, if the fracture occurs very close to the outer enamel of the tooth, the future success rate will not be encouraging, whether there is a separation of the tooth segments or not.
